Introduction

Environmental Science has been recognized as the science of sustainable development on earth. It is an emerging science of interdisciplinary academic fields that integrate physical and biological sciences to the study of environment. Environmental scientists bring a systematic approach to the analysis of environmental problems. They work on subjects like understanding of earth processes, development of alternate energy systems, pollution control and mitigation measures, cleaner production, environmental management systems, natural resources management, solid waste management and global climatic changes among others.

Importance

Achieving sustainable development by the coming years should be a top most agenda of Pakistan strategic planning to give birth to an environmentally sound and healthy nations. Introducing green economy, biodiversity and ecosystem services, conservation of natural resources and environmental governance are required to be incorporated in the management strata of the country to declare Pakistan an environmentally prosperous society. This entails a pressing need to start educating our young generation in environmental discipline and courses. Environmental professionals are on high demand in the world since countries have made mandatory employment of these professionals in order to meet international standards of environmental safeguards in their organizations and businesses.

Facilities

The design of the Department of Environment Science in NFC-IET has been developed to provide both technologically advanced learning environments and inviting and comfortable interactive spaces. The goal of this project has been to promote collaborative interaction between students and faculty with public discussion of current enviromental science issues. Towards this end, the floor of the Environment Science building has been reconfigured to provide multiple, naturally lit technical laboratories, classrooms, student lobbies, and study spaces providing flexible open and inviting areas where students can engage in constructive exchanges and networking with peers, faculty, and the extended academic community. The Department of Environment Science will promote both mastery of the leading technology of today and the collaborative teamwork skills necessary for tomorrow.

The graduates of the BS Environmental Sciences program will:

PEO 1: Develop a strong foundation in environmental sciences knowledge, analytical skills, and research methodologies to assess and solve environmental challenges effectively.

PEO 2: Apply sustainable environmental management practices and ethical decision-making to promote conservation, pollution control, and ecological protection while ensuring compliance with national and international policies.

PEO 3: Engage in scientific research, technological advancements, and continuous lifelong learning to contribute to the development of innovative environmental solutions and climate change adaptation strategies.

PLO-2	Problem Analysis	Students will be able to identify, define, and analyze real-world environmental issues using critical thinking and scientific reasoning, considering the root causes, potential consequences, and available solutions.

PLO-4	Investigation and Research Skills	Students will conduct scientific investigations using qualitative and quantitative research methods, collect and analyze data, and apply findings to solve environmental problems.
PLO-5	Modern Tool Usage	Students will proficiently use modern tools and technologies such as GIS, remote sensing, environmental modeling software, and laboratory instruments for data collection, analysis, and environmental decision-making.
PLO-6	Environmental Impact Risk Assessment & Sustainability	Students will assess environmental impacts and risks associated with human and industrial activities, and recommend sustainable practices in alignment with national and global environmental policies.
